All cyber schools will contact local providers to assist with IEP services such as Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, Instructional Aide’s, Registered Behavior technicians. PITT, llc works with several cyber schools to provide all educational support as outlined in each student’s IEP.
What is a Cyber School?
An online school teaches students entirely or primarily online or through the internet.
It has been defined as “education that uses one or more technologies to deliver instruction to students who are separated from the instructor to support regular and substantive interaction between the students.”
How is an IEP developed?
IEP are developed by a team of professionals within the school, they are typically overseen by a case manager. The team after reviewing all evaluations (internal or external) will determine what areas the students struggles to determine the best learning environment and instructions to ensure the students success in the classroom. The IEP will include individualized instruction the student may need (ex: Occupational therapy, speech therapy, ABA therapy, 1:1 instruction). The IEP is reviewed annually but can be updated throughout the year as necessary. The school district is required by law to provide all services outlined in a student’s IEP.
How can we provide services to a cyber school?
If a student’s IEP includes 1:1 service by an instructional aide and\or behavior support, the cyber school is required to fulfill that individualized instruction in the home or in a clinic as directed in the IEP. Cyber Schools have contracted companies to provide these services in the home.
What is ESY?
ESY (extended School year) is anything extended beyond the normal school hours of 6 hours a day, 180 days a year. ESY for our company would allow our staff to work with our students during school breaks (winter\spring breaks) as well as during the summer months. If a student is required to attend ESY in the summer, it is usually 6 weeks out of the summer with a limited schedule.
